No clue about the idea currently, but this rumor has been around for 10 years. I wouldn't worry about it, especially with how little DDR is doing in the US market.

They're also not going to just say "screw it" to all of the PIU machines they already have.

I didn't hear about this "rumor" til a few months back. But doesn't AM and D&b have a contract to have pump? Also the person who mentioned this is a DDR lover and hates pump/Korean stuff in general.  So it could just be his hatred spreading this.

Konami hasn't even published a DDR arcade game in the USA since 2010, with DDR X2.  X3 and the self-titled ones never actually had western releases. So that doesn't even make sense at all.

The latest game (informally titled DanceDanceRevolution 2014 because they stopped giving mixes names and instead everyone's going off the last folder and interface change) got location tested in California, and apparently not only is Round 1 going to get it for all their locations, but there are rumors that Dave & Busters is also getting in on it. Whether it'll replace Pump, if true, is unknown at the moment.

I've heard of DDR being in D&B and R1, but there's been no news of PIU getting REPLACED by DDR.  D&B is extremely interested in keeping relations with AM USA, so I don't think PIU is going away from D&B.

Louisville, KY just got our first PiU machine that's actually running a version released in the Obama administration (seriously, our previously newest machine was an NXA).

And it's an Infinity running in a TX cabinet, for $1.50 a game.  😵🔫

Soooooo, I'm extremely late to the conversation on this, but this is the first time I've ever tried the newer-style pads.  Is it just me being new to them, or do they feel like home pads?  They feel like they have no give, I had a lot of trouble bracketing, and they just don't feel right.  Like, I play a lot better on my SD pads, even.  Do they get better over time?

BTW, update on the Dave & Busters situation: it turns out they gave us the old switcheroo and after the new DDR got revealed (which does actually have a name: DDR A, pronounced "Ace" because playing cards) they in turn revealed they had ordered this new game to a substantial amount of their stores as opposed to the 2014 game that was loc tested. I believe it's expected to be fully localized and launched in the summer.

You need to slightly mod them, but that's it.

Yep. New pads are always like this.

Just got my Precision Dance Pads "Omega PX" pad today, and played around on it for about an hour.

TL;DR: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6MFR-gDIpY

First impressions are that it's really, really nice. A massive step up from the shitty Exceed SE soft pads. The steps are responsive enough, don't ghost step, and they actually require a bit of force to activate; you can't just tap them, you really have to step. I even tried songs like Rapper's Delight that have 16th note double-single steps, and even those were no problem for this pad. Didn't ghost step at all.

Plugged it into my Windows 7 machine and it auto-installed the driver; Step F2 recognized it no problem, just went into the Input config and set the inputs. Was up and running in just 2 minutes from plugging it in.

It does however, slide around a little bit, even with how heavy it is. It's only around 15 pounds or so, but after songs with lots of fast steps, it will slide around. Just a little though; maybe 3-4 inches in one direction, as opposed to the soft mats where you have to fucking duct tape it to the floor to prevent it from sliding all over the place. I tried putting the "floor grip" underneath it, which is really just a mesh netting made out of rubber, only about half the size of the pad, but that only seemed to help a little bit. The surface I'm playing on isn't really that slippery either; it's a short, hard rug.

The arrows aren't recessed like the old PIUX; rather, the arrows are sticking upwards a tiny bit, and the space around them sticking down. Basically opposite of the arcade pads. It's not bad though; it DOES help you feel where your feet are.

Playing in my regular shoes, my feet had a really nice grip on the pad as well. A little stronger grip than arcade pads, but that's not particularly a bad thing.

I'll post some videos and a full review sometime in the next couple of days.
