Posted by: valius on 02:56 CST :: 2/14/2007
So since some of us wanted to know more about the Korean artists that make PIU fun, I thought we could have a "Random" thread similar to the PIU one in General for K-Pop artists. Basically, feel free to discuss whatever or whenever about K-Pop artists here... anything from a Youtube link to a Nam Hyun Joon performance to questions about the Baek Ji Young scandal.
If this gets enough steam, I'll sticky.
Anyway, I was wondering... does anyone know if Lee Jung Hyun (of Wa and Bakkwo fame) has indeed gotten plastic surgery... or if she's just put on a little weight?
A performance of Wa way back:

To a more recent appearance on X-man (Korean variety show):

And here's a random song by Dynamic Duo:
People should figure out what song they're remixing.
Posted by: giamatti on 19:34 CST :: 2/15/2007
ummm... being random...
i heard that female kpop artists take plastic surgery at a young age once they become singers
Posted by: huhu12 on 07:07 CST :: 2/16/2007
my question is: Does anybody know about:will Seo Taiji release a new album? Because he released the single "Watch Out", but it didn't appear on any of his albums.
Posted by: the_peacemaker on 07:33 CST :: 2/16/2007
Um, what? I'm not much of a K-Pop listener and I've never heard about that.
Dang...I guess that means Sad Salsa's never coming back.
Posted by: Arturo on 10:03 CST :: 2/16/2007
Baek Ji Young -- It was a nude photo(s) (or was it video? I can't recall exactly) scandal a few years ago. She's released albums since then. She's weathered the storm okay, I'd say.
Posted by: valius on 16:37 CST :: 2/16/2007
It was a sex tape, somewhat like the Paris Hilton one.
She's still around.
I don't think that scandal would affect whether Sad Salsa came back... it'd probably depend on whether the dev team thinks it's a good idea to bring it back... or if they can afford to get it.

Who's Hyun Jin Young? I've listened to the full versions of his PIU songs and he seems to be very full of himself, most of the lyrics to his songs are about him/his ego. Is he some old-school Korean hip-hop artist making a comeback? Or is he the Justin Timberlake of K-Pop, or what?
Posted by: valius on 15:16 CST :: 2/17/2007
Hyun Jin Young really is one of the ORIGINAL hip hop artists for Korean music, and his songs predate even Seo Taiji in 1992. He's really respected by the Korean people and is still on the scene.
I don't think he's retired ever... save for that "mandatory" retirement that had to be done when he got arrested for drug possession.

Recognize this song?
Posted by: psystummy on 00:36 CST :: 2/24/2007
i guess msn's soapbox doesn't like firefox because the video would not load. i don't recognize the song, but i've seen this clip before, and this girl dances well, but she does so many "sexy" moves that just don't look right coming from a little kid. kids these days.... whose the artist and song name? i'd like to listen to the mp3 of it.
Posted by: valius on 03:16 CST :: 2/25/2007
Well, it's Sung In Shik by Park Ji Yoon.
This song appeared in Pump It Up: Perfect Collection as I Will Accept You (which is weird, since the song's real title literally means "Coming-of-Age Ceremony")... it had fun steps, though it needed a Crazy.
Posted by: RaślCamOv on 18:15 CST :: 2/27/2007
Did u know that BoA's Valenti has got three versions?? in korean, japanese and english.
The Korean is the one appeared on exceed
Posted by: valius on 13:39 CST :: 3/01/2007
Ah, I've heard all three versions. BoA sings lots in Korea and Japan, so there's multiple versions of some of her songs.
Anyway, here's a performance by a guy some of you might recognize:

Why most K-pop videos have background dancers?
Posted by: valius on 22:29 CST :: 3/01/2007
I didn't think having backup dancers was that uncommon?
The singers in this thread are all known for dance/hip hop tracks, so backup dancers would make sense (although Se7en is so good, he doesn't always have backup dancers).
Here's a 1994 performance with both Seo Taiji and the Boys and Crash with no backup dancers: < http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D11LYAUC9Kk >
Posted by: Arturo on 14:43 CST :: 3/03/2007
For anyone who hoped to one day become her husband, I have to dash your hopes by informing you that Harisu just announced she's getting married. She'll be a May bride. Marrying a rapper.
Posted by: RaślCamOv on 10:14 CST :: 3/05/2007
That gay!!!??? Well, now that "he" is a "she", she can marry whosever she wants, right??
Posted by: valius on 05:19 CST :: 3/11/2007
THIS song should be on PIU! Another popular song by the legendary Hyun Jin Young:
Who knew the guy could sing jazz?
Posted by: WaltCip on 05:18 CST :: 3/12/2007
Park Jin Young did (and quite well, as we all know).
Posted by: valius on 08:03 CST :: 3/12/2007
True, and although Park Jin Young is amazing too, but... Park Jin Young isn't usually know for being a rapper/hip hop champion, considering a lot of his stuff is jazzy/old-school.
It's interesting, since Hyun Jin Young, for some, IS the hiphop champion, having been on the scene before even Taiji.
Posted by: cj_iwakura on 20:52 CST :: 3/25/2007
Click-B, anyone? < Live performance of the forgotten single from Premiere/PREX, 'Love'. >
I guess the full name is Forgotten Love, why is why it's so hard to get any info on it.
I wish I could find an actual music video, if one exists. It's one of my all-time favorites.
Posted by: valius on 03:50 CST :: 4/09/2007
If this isn't a gathering of cool K-Pop artists, I don't know what is:
Jungin (who is the female vocalist in the song Go Back by Dynamic Duo)
G1 (Eun Ji Won is in this group)
Surprisingly, We Don't Stop is even BETTER live... I started liking the song after seeing this performance.
The PIU songs you should listen for:
We Don't Stop

There's a big Korean concert at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on May 5th. I was seriously considering a trip out there.
17 acts, including BoA, Fly To The Sky, Epik High, Baek Ji Young, Big Bang, Super Junior, and lots more.

Additionally, tickets to Rain's latest USA leg of his world tour should be going on sale very soon. Stops include Atlanta, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Honolulu, during June and July.
Posted by: Arturo on 13:32 CST :: 5/11/2007
Just bought my tickets to the L.A. stop on Rain's world tour! Nice seats on the floor of Staples Center.
You need a code to buy during this weekend's pre-sale at Ticketmaster, so if you don't want to wait until Monday when they go on sale to the general public, message me for access. Floor seats are going fast!
For proof on how huge Rain's getting around the world, last year he made Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People list. And he was just announced last week as being on People Magazine's 100 Most Beautiful People list (first-ever Korean on the list).
Even Stephen Colbert at Comedy Central did a nice spoof about Rain the other day, haha. Time did a people's poll version of the Most Influential People and Rain was #1, right ahead of Stephen, haha. So, watch the music video takeoff that Colbert comes up with, in response, rofl.
< Rain Spoof >
Also, Rain will release a new English-language CD later this year, hoping to conquer the USA as well.
And it was just announced that he secured a coveted role in the new big-budget Hollywood film of the old TV classic Speed Racer (word is he's the #2 character, not the lead).
This guy works non-stop!
Posted by: valius on 18:11 CST :: 5/11/2007
Haha, that Rain spoof by Colbert is hilarious!
Sadly I don't think I can go attend...
Posted by: valius on 02:03 CST :: 5/16/2007
Apparently this thread has been giving the wrong impression or something... or maybe people think this an E! thread or something...
Anyway, I've amended the topic title to make the topics of discussion more broad, so basically ANY questions or topics about ANYTHING K-Pop is the deal.
For instance, if you want to know how Turtles actually look like, this is the place to ask...
So far, I've nothing new on the radar so far, but you'll see stuff from time to time... and hopefully, hopefully people will actually look in this thread instead of ignoring it. (Probably a request too selfish for my own good)
Posted by: PumpFreak on 08:42 CST :: 6/06/2007
I'm in the process of ordering my Rain tickets in NYC.
btw, I didn't see it but in my politics class we watch the Colbert Report (it's awesome I know) and one of the videos we were about to watch but didn't get up to was apparently Rain and South Korea responded to Colbert's music video
Posted by: Arturo on 09:25 CST :: 6/06/2007
Wow, I didn't hear about a response from Rain/South Korea on the actual show. I'll have to look for it online.
I did hear that he enjoyed Colbert's spoof very much. He was flattered by it, apparently.
Awesome that you're going to the Madison Square Garden concert. Alot of the concert is already posted online, but I've been trying not to watch much of it, to preserve its impact for when I actually go see it in person. Let me know how the concert goes, mine's not until the 30th.
Posted by: Leccoc on 11:05 CST :: 6/06/2007
Dynamic Duo just released a new album!! And the MV from it is hilarious. I loved it. You should watch it too:
< Dynamic Duo - 출첵 >
The only problem is that the song's name is in Korean... anyone can translate it?
Posted by: PumpFreak on 14:12 CST :: 6/06/2007
When I got home I watched the Colbert Report about Rain responding to Colbert, I just posted a thread about it in the Pump Haven Lounge
Posted by: Arturo on 08:35 CST :: 6/07/2007
News coming out this morning that Rain may very well have to postpone/cancel the U.S. leg of his world tour. He's been fighting with a U.S.-based Beatles tribute band called "Rain" over the use of the name, since February.
Rain even has prepared posters and such with his real name, Jung Ji Hoon, instead of Rain. Ticketmaster changes also occured. But it might be too little, too late.
We're waiting on official confirmation about the tour's status now. Let's hope negotiations are successful. Any delay in the tour would really hurt.
I can't believe he doesn't own the rights to his own stage name. It's odd, I know another Korean artist (on a smaller scale) who also neglected to legally protect his rights and is also involved in the resulting legal mess.

Thanks for those vids.
God, if Taiji stages a concert this Spring/Summer for his upcoming new album, it's gonna be so epic.

Epik High's like the only k-pop band I listen to these days.
Posted by: Noodles on 14:23 CST :: 1/24/2008
I'm starting to like 015B now, it's different... very different.
by the way peace, have you thought about coming out with a piece of Very Old Couple?

Rain just signed with the super-powerful William Morris Agency in Hollywood. If he's ever gonna cross-over into the USA market like he really wants to, this will be a big opportunity to accomplish that goal.
With a featured role in Summer's "Speed Racer" movie, the lead in a later action movie from a big-named Hollywood producer, and his upcoming English-language album and concert tour, he's really going to saturate the market. Not to mention Colbert's promised invite to have him on his TV show, lol, as a follow-up to Colbert's pretend "rant" about finishing #2 to Rain in a Time Magazine poll of Most Influential People. haha, can't wait for THAT show.
Posted by: kpopgrrl on 22:34 CST :: 3/20/2008
For a "summer" movie, it sure is coming pretty quick. May 9th!
I also just started listening to Clazziquai, I know how late I am but I saw this song from their 3.5 album and I really think it's unique:
I downloaded that album and found another song I think is amazing, "Iconic Love." It's an interesting electronic mix with eerie vocals, all in English (not that it really matters to me).
I also realized that cute guy who cooks food for the "Vitamin" TV show on KBS is Alex from this group.
Posted by: valius on 00:48 CST :: 3/21/2008
Personally, I think Clazziquai is probably one of the best Korean groups I've heard in a long time... glad to see someone has discovered how awesome they are
Posted by: Arturo on 09:00 CST :: 3/21/2008
I like them, too. I've got a couple of their CDs.
Posted by: Thanh on 00:43 CST :: 3/22/2008
So I got around to downloading Jang Yoon Jeong's 3rd album, Later Later, and really really like it a lot. The album I downloaded was unfortunately untagged so I don't know what song is what. After searching for half an hour, I find nothing except for Oh My! lyrics.
Would anyone be willing to take the time to give me a romanization of the songs?
I just want to know what songs I am listening to.
Posted by: kpopgrrl on 23:19 CST :: 3/23/2008
I copied the list from another site. I used my own romanization, i'm sorry if you have trouble reading it. I can change it to something more readable if you want. I also translated the titles I understand. Others are free to correct me or add to it if they wish. I hope I was of some help.

I actually don't really like this album, but the video was pretty cool, I have it on my iPod. Sharon and I are actually considering "Speechless" off of their Color Your Soul album as a first dance song at our wedding.
If you guys like K Hip-Hop you should check out Jerry.K and Bizzy B, also Honey Family's 4th and Dynamic Duo's Love is Enlightened (3rd album) aren't bad either. Chul Check video = Awesome

Kind of a long shot, but does anyone have any info about the group To-Ya that did Run Away in Pump It Up? More specifically, the rapper in the full version; he sounds JUST LIKE one of the rappers in Banya's hip hop songs.
Posted by: supernovamaniac on 21:38 CST :: 9/06/2008
unless there was a ft. in that song, to ya is a female group.
Posted by: davyn on 01:56 CST :: 9/07/2008
That's the thing, there is no "featuring" in the title or tags for that track, but there is a dude rapping. I don't think he appears on any other song on that album. It's just almost impossible to find any info about To-Ya to see if any other tracklisting would have that dude's name.

www.yesasia.com and www.music-plaza.com for buying Korean CDs.....I've used both and they've been around for years. If you ever travel to any large cities, you can also try searching around their KoreaTown or Asian areas for shops that sell them.

The Yahpp version of Fire is very different from the original, though I'm sure someone's already said that.

Some would say it was far from an accident. But then, nothing was proven about the murder allegations. Either way, tragic.
I just heard yesterday that SeoTaiji's new "Coma" single was made because of the infamous arson which destroyed the revered Namdaemun Gate about a year ago. Interesting.

Like songs included in PIU (eg. Breaking Love). I always prefer the korean one.

Heard this song in a CD store in Korea last year, and absolutely loved it instantly. Such a badass groove for such a badass pimp like Kim Gun Mo, haha. The ajussi still has it after all these years!

KARA will be at the Korean Music Festival at The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on May 1st, along with many others (Wonder Girls, 2PM, BEAST, Leessang, etc.).
Maybe KARA can do this with Wonder Girls instead? haha
valius, I know it was an old post of yours, but if you didn't already know now, FTTS released a new CD just a few months ago, and each of the guys also released solo CDs around the same time.

If SNSD, they should perform the 2010 Disk Daesang winning song "Oh!" and the 2009 Digital Daesang winning song "Gee".

I'm in a bit of a rut with Kpop, and am in need of newer songs to listen to.
I don't know where to start, so I'll go with wondering if anyone can recommend or have any songs that would get me out of this.
I've especially been looking for songs in Pump that were either in remixes, like the Kim Gun Mo/Clon/Sechskies, or the Jo Sung Mo.

I can't believe I need a three-year-old thread, but ah well.
K-pop song from a few years ago, probably 00s, it's driving me NUTS trying to remember it.
It was just one singer, a girl in a beret who wears multiple outfits during the video, it's almost entirely on a rooftop.
It has some English lyrics, some of which being 'tell me do you want'. She had shortish black hair.
It starts with a rap, too. Hoping someone can help me track it down.

Here is three more years. Is anyone watching Show Me the Money? It's a Korean rap competition that started its sixth season on June 30, 2017. I'm only following it because TigerJK from Drunken Tiger will be one of the producers. The following is a cypher featuring all the producers on the current season of Show Me the Money.

I just leave this here in case someone is interested.
Seo Taiji is working on a project to celebrate the 25th anniversary of his debut with Seo Taiji and Boys.
The prject called SEOTAIJI 25 Project - "Time : Traveler".
He collaborate with other K-pop artists to perform a cover of Taiji's songs.
The first guest of honor is BTS, covering the song Come Back Home, and released as a music video in July 5 -> < https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vJFn10XLQM >
BTS is the hottest idol in Korea right now. They even set the record as the first K-pop group to win at the Billboard Music Awards.

Urban Zakapa, Korean R&B group, followed a week later with Moai -> < https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJWZw01YWq8 >

Again, 1 week later on July 18, Taiji released Younha cover of Take Five -> < https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5e5_FIi4oA >
Younha is also a big name in Korea and Japan. Anime fans may know her from Bleach soundtrack: Houkiboshi. Epik High's Umbrella (Korean: Usan), in which she featured, stays in my playlist even today.
Interesting fact from the Take Five cover MV is that it features (my personal favorite) actress Shin Se-Kyung, who was featured in Taiji's Take Five original MV as the little girl in the end of the video.
