INTRODUCTION:

For many years I've wanted to put on a four-panel dance simulation tournament in the Central Florida area. Up until now I haven't been able to do so, but with a little help from members of the dance simulation community it is now possible. First I need to apologize to all the four-panel players reading this as this is a five-panel (meaning Pump It Up) dance simulation tournament. This tournament is being held in celebration of Fun In Motion's newest dance simulation title, Pump It Up Pro 2!

Please make sure to read through all the rules and other details below. If you have any questions, please contact one of our event coordinators and we shall get back to you as soon as possible. It would be best to send a PM to Crevolous.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

The tournament will be held this upcoming January on the 7th and 8th at Boardwalk Bowl in Orlando, FL. The tournament will be double elimination style meaning once you lose the second time you're out. Please read through the rules below as they are explained in detail.

DATE & TIME:

Registration - Friday, January 7th, 2011 - 5:00 PM-7:30 PM
Qualifying - Friday, January 7th, 2011 - 7:30 PM-9:00 PM
Beat at the Boardwalk Tournament - Saturday, January 8th, 2011 - 12:00 PM-9:00 PM

LOCATION:

10749 East Colonial Dr.
Orlando, FL 32817
407-384-0003

EVENT COORDINATORS:

Adrian Bruno (Crevolous - Pump Pro+: Official Pump It Up Simfiles, Edits, News & More!)
Anthony Meszaros (A.R.S.R. - Dance Sanity)
Joshua Campell (Tyger - Storm Gaming League)

REGISTRATION FEE:

The registration fee per entrant is set at $10 if you register early. All money will be collected the day of the tournament and must be paid in cash. All entrants who register the day before the tournament (January 7th, 2011) will pay a fee of $15. Make sure to register before Friday to avoid paying the $15 price. Early registration can be done through our registration form.

Once you register for the tournament through the website, you will receive a confirmation e-mail notifing your registration was received. You can view the registration form here.

QUALIFYING:

There are five possible qualifying songs, one of which will be chosen randomly the day before the tournament. The five songs are as follows:

EternuS - Sanxion7 (CZ 10)
Man VS. Mountain - Throwdown (CZ 10)
Miss's Story - BanYa (CZ 9)
Move It Groove It - Kaw feat. Sam-I-Am (CZ 10)
Rainspark - Sanxion7 (CZ 10)

The day before the tournament one of qualifying songs will be chosen at random. Once the qualfying song has been selected, participants will go up two at a time. This process will continue until all participants are seeded in the tournament.

TOURNAMENT PLAY:

The higher seed selects either their side of choice or song of choice before their match begins. I.E.: If the higher seed selects their side of choice, the lower seed picks the first song. The winner of the round will be declared after a player wins two out of three songs. If each player wins one song, a third song will be selected at random until the tie is broken.

The loser of the round will be placed in the Loser's Bracket. If a player looses in the Loser's Bracket, they are elminated from the competition.

TOURNAMENT RULES:

Below are the official rules of the tournament. Anyone who breaks these rules will be first given a warning. If a second infraction occurs that player will be removed from the tournament.

1.) All songs must be played on the Crazy difficulty only.

2.) The higher seed must choose their playing side or first song. The first player to win two songs will move on to the next round. If each player wins a song, a third song will be randomly selected.

3.) Speed mods are set to the player's preference. Turn mods such as (left, right, shuffle, ect.) are not permitted. Players may choose to change their perspective if needed.

4.) You are not allowed to choose a song more than once throughout the competition with exception to the Final Four Round Robin.

5.) You are not allowed to choose the same song your opponent chose previously in the same match.

6.) If you fail or stop playing for five seconds, your opponent wins the song. If your opponent forfeits a song you automatically win that song and do not have to continue playing.

7.) Players are not permitted to skip the results screen until the organizer gives the ok. Players who bypass the results screen will receive a warning the first time. If a second infraction occurs that player will be removed from the tournament.

OTHER DETAILS:

This is a co-ed tournament, meaning both women and men will compete against one another. There simply isn't enough time to split the tournament into two divisions. Also, the bar may be used during the tournament. We recommend players use the bar to avoid hurting themselves during many of the high speed songs found in the Pump It Up Pro series.

PRIZES:

There will be an undetermined cash prize for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place contestants.

Oh boy I can't wait to pick Bemera ;D or was that also meant to be on the ban list (Since its also a long version).

Question. If say I picked a song on someone and they quit/stop playing for 5 seconds, would I get the win?  Or do I have to pass my picks?

I appreciate the response from this post so far. I also like the points that have been brought up and I'd like to give you the best detailed answer possible. I will post a link to the Facebook event page once I get back home. Also, the official registration form is still in the works and will be completed in the next few days. The official website for the Beat at the Boardwalk Pump It Up Pro 2 Tournament is at Pump Pro+ (http://www.pumpproplus.com).

First let me start by saying Bemera is also banned from the competition since it too is a long song. We feel including long songs in the competition would hinder the amount of time we have.

To answer the question about what happens when your opponent stops for five or more seconds during a match let me say this: you do not have to complete the song unless you want to. You are free to give up immediately after your opponent has stopped playing for five seconds. In result you will automatically win the song your opponent gave up on.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to post them here.

Thanks!

CREv

As it is, there are only 4 15s, 6 14s, and 11 13s.  If you remove long version songs, you remove a 15, 2 14s, and a 13.  The game is heavily favored toward a lot of easy stuff (look how many 9s and 10s there are).  Are you really going to skew it even more?

The long version songs aren't even a minute longer than the longest regular songs (stuff like Dance All Night, Infection, and Hasse Mich are 1:55); Try to B.P.M is 2:31, Bemera is 2:43, Treme-Vook of the War is 2:44, Wi-Ex-Doc-Va is 2:46.

Few people are going to pick them.  These are also songs that people are more likely to quit out on, which might mean that the play time is actually shorter than a regular length song.  If you make sure the tournament is running smoothly, that tiny bit of extra time will not be a problem.  Stuff like making sure the next people up are actually there, ready to go, saves plenty of time.

I don't see a legitimate reason to remove these.

First off, let me introduce myself as ARSR, a co-coordinator of the Beat at the Boardwalk! tournament.

Secondly, anything over two minutes poses a threat to us getting in the whole tournament completed on time. We need a little bit of extra time space, for the "just-in-cases". We've done the math here, and believe that all the songs on the ban list are for the best.

Thank you for your time.

4/204 songs in the game are long versions.  How about limiting the time people take to pick songs?  There are plenty of other ways to save time.

Why not cut some of the songs out of the 9s and 10s so it isn't heavily skewed toward easy stuff if you're not going to keep those four songs, then?

Will the pads be fixed for the tournament?

We will do our best to fix the pads. We're not going to mess with the cuirciutry. But, if the sensitivity of the pads are bad, we will get the people at Boardwalk Bowl to fix it.

You don't have to mess with the circuitry to fix the pads.  Do you guys or the guys at Boardwalk Bowl know how to fix pads?  It's pretty easy, but most places/people don't know how to fix pads properly.

How about allowing the long versions starting in semi-final rounds, then?
