Illvelo (or Arcade Shooter Ilvelo) for the Wii has been pushed back again to April 13, 2010.  For those who own XBOX 360 consoles in America and need to play a shmup before Aksys brings Deathsmiles to America. there is the regular edition of ESPGALUDA II for the XBOX 360 which is region-free.  However, ESPGALUDA II Black Label will be Cave's last region-free shooter for the time being.  I think Cave is hoping Deathsmiles does well since Mushihimesama Futari did reasonably well.

I'm new to this site and the only thing i like more than dance games and fighting games is 2dshooters! I'm looking forward to ketsui on the 360 so bad! I got the esp2 LE, but haven't played it yet ::dodges brick:: The last shooter i played was the U.S. RFA and after completely dominating the entire leaderboards (aside from a lot of the RF1 board) and getting all the achievements, i needed a break. although I'll probably come back to it to soon. I also don't feel like hooking up the J360 to play esp2 (the LE is not region free, only the SE)

great thread BTW

I feel that transitioning to fighting and dancing games should be easier with a shmup background because reaction and timing are important for success in those games.  I've been playing shmups for a long time, but I still cannot perform the usual feats of skill like completing a game on one life.  The last game I played really well was U.N. Squadron for the SNES in which I was able to defeat the final boss with the default aircraft.  Anyway, I forgot to post this a few days ago: THIS is the limited edition for Deathsmiles, NOT THIS.  Also, Cho Aniki Zero is available for download on PlayStation Network.

There are lots of recent shmups with hooters like Mushihime-sama (PS2), Ibara (PS2), Triggerheart Exelica (XBOX 360), Otomedius (XBOX 360), Pink Sweets: Ibara Sorekara (still in Japanese arcades) and Mushihime-sama Futari (XBOX 360).  Anyway, if anyone missed out on the XBOX 360 version of ESPGaluda II for the XBOX 360, you can now play it on the iPhone 3GS and hopefully soon on other iPhone models and the iPod Touch.  It's currently on sale for $4.99, so grab it before it goes up to $8.99

all those games have really big hooters, but most are underage unfortunately.

I think a shmup or 2d fighting background goes hand in hand not only with each other but along with music games like you said earlier. they each give you an experience that helps you improve in the other genre by molding your brain to be so accustomed to everything that they have in common, which is a lot. timing, precision, reaction time, and adapting to new challenges.

shmup: dodge this wall of purple bullets while maintaining your combo...while the bullets chase you!
rhythm game: hit (instead of dodge) every note in this rainbow of crap that flies up at you.
fighter: mix of both + plus mind games

aww shiiii!!! the port has been released ever! doubt more than 3 people will get that joke.

so anyone else play ketsui yet on the 360? it's really (surprisingly) good, and accurately ported. unlike DOJ, 5pb actually put some effort into this port, and wow. all the slowdown is really accurate, things seem to flow right, just perfect! unless you're mihara...you'll love this game!

I also got the platinum otomedius G since 35buks ain't bad. haven't dabbled in that one yet though.

I didn't think this would happen.  It was tough getting any 2D shooter localized, especially the Cave and the Parodius shmups.  The sequel to Otomedius G, my guess is this game will also be on disc.  I wonder if Konami will also bring the joysticks over as well.  This year is looking good for shmups, although we still don't know the status of Arcade Shooter: Ilvelo for the Nintendo Wii.

Some of us can't.  :P

But anyway... just like you play any other hard game until the end: practice, practice, practice, and more practice.
