Yeah, I was about to say something. Freakin' refs robbing the win from us. That goal was good and that dude who grabbed the U.S. player should have gotten a penalty against him.

*dudes. Plural. It looked like THREE Slovenians were doing it.

No surprise the reffing is going this ridiculously against America, it's not like the international community hates the U.S. for various reasons or anything

I honestly don't believe the game was fixed, but I think that ref has a personal vendetta against the U.S.

And I'm actually hoping the U.S. doesn't advance out of group C because this country doesn't fucking deserve it (nor will it care). But still, that call was complete trash. And the fact he doesn't have to justify it at all is the best part. Seriously what kind of sport lets the refs deicde the entire outcome like that and then lets them say NOTHING about it? This is why Americans will NEVER get into soccer. Well that and the fact that the score doesn't end up like 102-94 or 24-17 or [not 0]-[not 0] like the "popular" American sports. Short attention span gogogogogo

Also the vuvuzela is the best musical instrument ever made, I don't know what you all are talking about. BZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZ

What the fuck?

The fact that the US is a political shithole right now doesn't have any bearing on what its soccer players "deserve".  If they work hard and play better than the other teams, they've earned the right to progress.

So is this also how you feel when it comes to Americans putting out their all in cross-country skiing, fencing, volleyball, ski jumping, rowing...any other Olympic sport that isn't VASTLY publicized in America?

No need to be so cynical, dude...just wish your favorite players well. If they love the sport and they're on a mission to win, that's all that matters.

If there's any country in the world that doesn't appreciate the sport, it's the United States. I can see where Insane Steve is coming from.

Are you saying I can't? Because that's not the point...the point is that it's the players' game and no one else's. Who cares what the rest of the country thinks? I understand that a win for other countries may instill more civic pride, but that doesn't mean the Americans shouldn't do well and then congratulate themselves on a job well done.

In any case, we all probably think similar things but just don't express them with the same level of frankness.
And in the end, we all have one thing we can say in perfect unison:
VUVUZELAS SUCK

So anyway...with the way Brazil is playing, it looks like Group G is pretty much a race for the second Top 16 slot now. :)

"right now"? Where have you been the last decade?

What I meant was that Americans just don't care about soccer. At all. So, why should a team who doesn't care about the sport win when there's plenty of nations who celebrate the World Cup like a national holiday? I mean, I can see where you're coming from especially from the U.S. players' point of view (and I still think the disallowed goal is some of the worst bullshit ever) but still I just can't hope for our country to do extremely well in this event. If the U.S. somehow does very well, then great for them. I just can't cheer for them even though I've been outside the U.S. for a total of 5 days of my life.

I am an extraordinarily cynical person by nature.

I wanted the Americans to do well in e.g. the winter Olympics, honestly (didn't help that the sport I followed most was curling and the U.S. shat bricks at that). I mean, obviously other countries "follow" the sports in the Olympics more than the U.S. but it's nowhere near as drastic as with soccer.

all that having been said, and probably the part of this post that'll draw more hate than anything:

Vuvuzelas are freaking awesome. Haters gonna hate

You're obviously not watching the games. There are "American" (as you call them) fans in the stands cheering on the team. Did you ever think that our team doing better than it ever has would make people actually start paying attention more than they ever have?

And I'm cheering for the U.S. and S. Korea (that's where I am right now).

Living in this political shithole.  I used "right now" because I'm not cynical enough to think that the situation will never improve.

Korea ties with Nigeria, but clinches it's place as runner-up for Group B!
